Intersection Crashes in Kansas
According to the AAA Foundation, running a red light accounts for 28 percent of deadly intersection crashes yearly. Statistics show that passengers or occupants of other vehicles made up over half of these fatalities. A total of 1,109 persons lost their lives in collisions involving red light running in 2021. Pedestrians, cyclists, and occupants of other cars struck by red-light runners made up half of the fatalities. The same year, crashes involving red-light runners resulted in an estimated 127,000 injuries. It is interesting to note that while 28 percent of drivers admitted to running a red light in the past 30 days, almost 86 percent of drivers think that doing so is extremely dangerous.
