Lawrence, KS (June 14, 2024) – On Thursday, June 13, there were confirmed injuries after a rollover accident in the Lawrence area. The incident was reported on Interstate 70 early that morning around 8:45 a.m. Local reports revealed that a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling eastbound on the interstate when it swerved to avoid hitting a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck in the left lane that entered the middle lane.
The driver was able to avoid crashing with the pickup, but the Malibu left the roadway where it hit a ditch and overturned. The driver of the Malibu, later identified as 39-year-old John Correll of Lawrence, was transported by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for the treatment of sustained injuries. The driver of the Silverado, 24-year-old Emmanuel Whytus of Topeka, was not hurt in the crash. Both drivers were alone in their vehicles. No further information on the incident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is being handled by local law enforcement officials.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for a full recovery.
Rollover Accidents in Kansas
A major crash might happen almost at any time. A rollover collision is one of the most devastating crash types reported on American roads. The passengers of a vehicle run the risk of being ejected entirely and getting seriously hurt in the event of a rollover. Unrestrained passengers are more likely to be ejected from the car and sustain serious injuries. This may be the cause of the approximately 75 percent of rollover fatalities involving unrestrained occupants. Data also reveals that over 33 percent of the ejected passengers in a rollover were safely buckled up in their seat belts, meaning that even if you are restrained, you can still be seriously hurt.
