Ogallah Twp, KS - Several Hurt in Pileup Crash on I-70

Ogallah Twp, KS (June 18, 2024) – On Monday, June 17, several people were injured following a multi-vehicle collision in the area of Ogallah Township. The incident was reported on Interstate 70 near mile marker 142.8 that afternoon, around 4:30 p.m. Local reports revealed that there were strong winds and dust on the interstate at the time of the collision.

It was later revealed that 46-year-old Mireya Lule of Oklahoma City, OK was headed eastbound in a 2018 Toyota Rav4 behind a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox. Due to strong winds and dust, Lule was unable to see the driver of the Toyota, 19-year-old Anna L. Briggs of Quinter, slow down on the roadway. Lule crashed into the back of a camper towed by the Equinox. It was then that a 2013 GMC pickup truck, driven by 37-year-old Alyssa Brewster of Phenix City, AL, crashed into the rear of the Toyota. The Rav4 came to a rest on the shoulder, and the GMC came to a rest in the median.

Emergency crews were rushed to the scene to provide the necessary aid. Lule and two of her passengers, 44-year-old Marisa Maria of Oklahoma City and 64-year-old Irma Miramontes Palomino of Oklahoma City, were transported to Hays Medical Center by ambulance for treatment. Briggs was transferred by ambulance to Trego County Hospital. No one traveling in the GMC was injured. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the incident is in progress.

Our thoughts are with Mireya Lule, Marisa Maria, Irma Miramontes Palomino, Anna L. Briggs, and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
