Lawrence, KS (June 20, 2024) – A driver was injured after a multi-vehicle crash in the Lawrence area on Wednesday, June 19. The incident was reported on Interstate 70 WB near mile marker 189.2 early that morning around 11:20 a.m. Local reports revealed that a 2023 Chevrolet box truck, a 2005 Jeep Cherokee, a 2016 Toyota Rav4, and a 2013 Nissan Murano were traveling westbound at the time of the crash.
The drivers of the Jeep, Toyota, and Nissan began to slow on the roadway due to traffic. The Jeep was hit from behind by the box truck, operated by 66-year-old Anyang Emmanuel of Olathe. The impact caused the Jeep, driven by 57-year-old Pamela Mattes also of Olathe, to push into the back of the Rav4 and the Murano. Emergency responders were quickly dispatched to provide aid to the involved parties. Mattes was transported by ambulance to Stormfront Vail Hospital for the treatment of sustained injuries. None of the other drivers involved were hurt. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is being managed by local law enforcement officials, and more updates will be released as it continues.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for a full recovery.
