Kansas City, KS (June 30, 2024) – A passenger was injured after a multi-vehicle collision in the Kansas City area on Saturday, June 29. The accident was reported on Interstate 635 SB near State Avenue late that night around 11:05 p.m. Local reports revealed that a 2018 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck, a 2008 Nissan Titan pickup truck, and a 2009 Mercedez-Benz E-Class passenger car were traveling south in the second lane at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Mercedez slowed due to traffic on the interstate. This caused the driver of the Nissan pickup, 37-year-old Ruth N. Lujan-Villegas of Kansas City, to stop. The Nissan was hit from behind by the Dodge pickup, driven by 47-year-old Marcus Robinson of Kansas City. Emergency responders were rushed to the scene to provide the necessary aid. A passenger in the Nissan, 45-year-old Mauro Salazar of Kansas City, was injured in the crash. He was transported by ambulance to Shawnee Mission Medical Hospital. No further information on the crash is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the incident is in progress.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for a full recovery.
Rear-end Collisions in Kansas
In the United States, rear-end collisions are the most often reported kind of car crash. Over 1.7 million of these crashes are reported each year, resulting in an average of 1,700 fatalities and 500,000 injuries. Because rear-end collisions usually cause a quick back-and-forth motion, neck and spine injuries are prevalent. These injuries frequently need extensive medical care and might last a lifetime. Complete healing of the ensuing damage may take weeks, months, or even years. These collisions are frequently caused by distracted driving, and the driver in the back is usually determined to be at fault.
