Kansas City, KS (July 26, 2024) – Two people were injured after a crash resulting from a police pursuit in Kansas City on Wednesday, July 24. The accident was reported on Central Avenue that afternoon around 12:40 p.m. Local reports indicated that trooper 23-year-old Isaiah J. A. Cortes of Olathe attempted to stop a driver due to a traffic violation.
The driver refused to pull over and sped away from the scene. Cortes pursued the vehicle and ultimately hit a 2017 Subaru Outback driven by 53-year-old Bernard D. Dugan of Shawnee while traveling through an intersection. The impact caused the Subaru to spin into westbound traffic where it collided with the front of a 2012 Kia Optima driven by 47-year-old Fadlalla Koko of Independence, MO. Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene, and Cortes was transported to the University of Kansas Medical Center for the treatment of sustained injuries. A passenger in the Subaru, 45-year-old Sarb K. Bassi of Quakertown, PA, was also hospitalized for treatment. No other injuries were reported in the impact. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
Intersection Crashes in Kansas
In Kansas, intersections are just another part of our daily commutes. Most of us don’t think twice about entering a crossroads, but statistics paint a different picture. According to statistics, serious car accidents frequently occur at American intersections. The at-fault driver typically fails to yield the right-of-way. According to statistics, intersection crashes account for about half of all accidents in the nation that cause significant injuries and around 20 percent of traffic fatalities, making them among the worst on the road. Many drivers run stop signs and red lights, which raises the possibility of them colliding with another vehicle. If you or someone close to you is hurt in an auto accident, you should consult with a qualified Kansas City car accident lawyer to pursue a strong compensation claim.
