Junction City, KS (August 6, 2024) – A man was killed and two others injured following a two-vehicle collision outside of Junction City on Monday, August 5. The fatal crash took place that afternoon around 3:30 p.m. on Interstate 70 near East Street. Local reports revealed that 72-year-old Robert Mitchell Cleveland was traveling westbound in a 1996 Toyota Tacoma at the time of the impact.
The front driver-side tire experienced a blowout. The vehicle veered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a 2023 Ford Bronco driven by 46-year-old Robert Edward George of Fowler, CO. Cleveland suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by attending medical personnel. George and his passenger, 48-year-old Ford Crystal Challene Cloninger were transported to Stormont-Vail Hospital for the treatment of sustained injuries. No further information on the deadly accident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the collision is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
