South Haven, KS - Two Injured in Semi Crash at US-177 & 180th St

South Haven, KS (August 9, 2024) – Two people were left with injuries following a rear-end collision in the area of South Haven on Thursday, August 8. The collision took place on US-177 SB near E. 180th Street that afternoon around 1:40 p.m. Local reports revealed that a 2019 Freightliner semi and a 2013 Ford Escape were traveling southbound at the time of the impact. 

It was reported that the driver of the Ford, 71-year-old John Stemle of Blackwell, OK, slowed down due to a farm tractor on the highway. The truck, driven by 66-year-old Maryland Lyons of Nashville, TN, crested a hill when it crashed into the back of the Escape. Emergency crews were rushed to the scene to provide aid to the involved parties. Both Stemle and his passenger, 75-year-old Marilyn Stemle, also from Blackwell, were injured and transported to Caldwell Regional Hospital for the treatment of sustained injuries. No further information on the crash is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
