Overland Park, KS (September 4, 2024) – A pileup collision in the area of Overland Park on Tuesday, September 3, left a driver with injuries. The collision took place on Interstate 435 EB near Quivira Road at around 5:31 p.m. Local reports revealed that a 2004 Ford F-150 pickup truck, a 2016 BMW XS, and a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck were all traveling eastbound at the time of the impact.
The driver of the Ford, 41-year-old Joseph W. Van Deusen of Louisburg, was speeding and unable to stop due to slowing traffic on the interstate. Deusen crashed into the rear of the BMW, which caused it to hit the back of the Chevy. Emergency crews were rushed to the scene to provide aid to the involved parties. The driver of the BMW, 75-year-old Gholam S. Hussaini of Overland Park, was injured and transported by ambulance to Overland Park Regional Medical Center for treatment. No other injuries were reported in the accident. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the collision is being managed by local law enforcement officials, and more information will be reported as it continues.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for a full recovery.
Rear-end Collisions in Kansas
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), rear-end collisions are the most commonly reported type of crash in the country. This should come as no surprise as many drivers are failing to pay attention to the road, meaning they are unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the car in front of them. Every year, about 1.7 million rear-end accidents happen on American roads. Almost 90 percent of all rear-end collisions are caused by driver distractions. Statistics show that more than 1,700 people die every year in rear-end crashes, and nearly 85 percent of neck injuries involve a driver hitting the rear of another car.
