Overland Park, KS (September 13, 2024) – A five-vehicle collision in the Overland Park area on Thursday, September 12, resulted in confirmed injuries. The accident occurred at around 5 p.m. on Interstate 435 WB near Quivira Road. Local reports revealed that all five drivers were headed westbound on the interstate at the time of the impact. 

A 15-year-old from Overland Park was driving a 2017 Nissan Rogue when the vehicle experienced an equipment failure and rear-ended a 2006 Ford Explorer driven by 55-year-old Andablo Hernandez Hipolito of Lenexa. The Nissan started rolling backward and was hit by a 2009 Toyota Rav4 operated by 28-year-old Sara Phomphansy also from Lenexa. The Ford was pushed into a 2021 Nissan Altima driven by 32-year-old Erica Lynn Brown of Olathe. The impact caused the Altima to hit a 2017 GMC Sierra driven by 55-year-old Jon Robert Spoonemore of Olathe. 

The driver of the Nissan Rogue and a juvenile passenger were injured in the crash and were transported to Children’s Mercy Hospital for treatment. Phomphansy was also injured and taken by ambulance to Overland Park Regional Hospital for treatment. No further information on the crash is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the collision is underway.
