Ozawkie, KS (September 17, 2024) – There were multiple injuries reported after a two-vehicle crash involving a school bus in the Ozawkie area on Monday, September 16. The incident took place on K-92 near McCarter Drive early that morning, around 7:14 a.m. Local reports revealed that a 15-year-old Ozawkie resident was driving a 2010 Volvo S80 when a 2016 Freightliner school bus driven by 73-year-old John Norman of Oskaloosa was stopped to pick up passengers.
The teen driver was reportedly diving uphill and blinded due to the sun when he crashed into the back of the school bus. There were several confirmed injuries, and emergency crews were dispatched to provide the necessary aid. There were 19 juvenile occupants on board the bus at the time of the impact. The driver of the Volvo and three passengers on the bus were hurt in the crash. The victims were transported to Stormont Vail Hospital for the treatment of sustained injuries. No further information on the accident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the collision is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
