Menoken, KS (September 28, 2024) – There were multiple injuries reported after a crash involving a wrong-way driver in the Menoken area on Friday, September 27. The collision took place on US-24 WB near Menoken Road early that morning around 7:44 a.m. Local reports revealed that 86-year-old Norman J. Swarts of Silver Lake was driving east in the westbound lanes of the highway in a 2017 Ford Explorer when he collided head-on with a westbound 2018 Range Rover driven by 32-year-old Alexis Skylar Burchett of Topeka.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene to provide aid to the involved parties. Both drivers were injured in the crash and transported to Stormont Vail Hospital for the treatment of sustained injuries. A juvenile in the Range Rover was also injured and treated at the scene. The area was temporarily closed while emergency crews were present. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. No further information on the accident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
