Merriam, KS (October 9, 2024) – There were reported injuries after a car accident in the Merriam area on Tuesday, October 8. The collision took place on Interstate 35 near Shawnee Mission Parkway at around 5:31 p.m. Local reports revealed that a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, a 2010 Toyota Corolla, and a 2023 Toyota Highlander were headed north on the interstate.
Traffic began to slow, and the driver of the Silverado, 31-year-old Mario Marcelo Paisano Carbajal of Olathe, crashed into the back of the Toyota, driven by 35-year-old Hannah Eiman Abu-Jamileh of Ferrelview, MO. The impact pushed the Corolla into the back of the Toyota, driven by 47-year-old Maria G. Torres of Lenexa. Emergency responders were rushed to the scene to provide aid to the involved parties. Abu-Jamileh and their passenger, 25-year-old Zachary Michael Keenan of Suwanee, GA, were injured in the crash. Abu-Jamileh was transported to the Kansas University Medical Center for treatment. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is in progress.
