Sublette, KS - Two Injured in Semi-Truck Crash at US-83 & US-56

Sublette, KS (October 12, 2024) – Two people were injured after a two-vehicle crash involving an 18-wheeler outside of Sublette on Friday, October 11. The accident took place near the US-83 and US-56 interchange that afternoon at around 12:37 p.m. Local reports revealed that 34-year-old Abdulhalim S. Omer of Alberta, Canada, was driving a 2023 Freightliner tractor-trailer traveling north on US-83 when he failed to yield at a stop sign.

The truck impacted a 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan driven by 50-year-old Hilda S. Gonzalez De Macias of Satanta headed westbound. The Dodge came to a rest in a northwest ditch. The semi came to a stop outside of the northbound lanes. Emergency crews were quickly dispatched to the scene. Gonzales De Macias and a passenger in her vehicle, 63-year-old Elvia Ochoa of Satanta, were transported to Satanta District Hospital by ambulance for the treatment of sustained injuries. No further information is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the incident is underway.

Our thoughts are with Hilda S. Gonzalez De Macias, Elvia Ochoa, and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

Semi-Truck Accidents in Kansas

Sublette, KS - Two Injured in Semi-Truck Crash at US-83 & US-56It’s easy to feel anxious when you’re on the road with an 18-wheeler. Big rigs are common on Kansas highways, and the state plays an important part in the national transportation system. More than 500,000 accidents involving big trucks happen every year on American roads. These types of accidents kill 5,000 people and hurt many more. When fully loaded, a truck can weigh up to 70,000 pounds. This means that people in smaller passenger cars are much more likely to be badly hurt in an accident. Statistics show that most trucking accidents involve personal cars.
