Belleville, KS (October 24, 2024) – A driver was killed and another injured after a wrong-way collision outside of Belleville on Wednesday, October 23. The accident took place on US-81 NB near mile marker 226.2 early that morning, around 4:56 p.m. For unknown reasons, 20-year-old Xavier Clark Robison of Republic was driving south in the northbound lanes of the highway at the time of the crash.
At the same time, 34-year-old Shafi Rahman Lal Shah Mir of Austin, TX, was headed northbound in a 2024 International semi tractor-trailer. The two vehicles collided head-on. Emergency crews were rushed to the scene to provide the necessary aid to the involved parties. Robison sustained fatal injuries and was later pronounced dead. Mir was transported by ambulance to Republic County Hospital for the treatment of sustained injuries. The area was temporarily closed while emergency crews were present. No updates on the crash are currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is in progress.
