Cherryvale, KS - Serious Injuries in Buggy Crash on US-400

Cherryvale, KS (October 25, 2024) – There were serious injuries after a crash involving a horse and buggy and a motor vehicle in the Cherryvale area on Thursday, October 24. The collision took place on US-400 near US-169 early that morning around 8:15 a.m. Local reports revealed that 27-year-old Landin Rayne Knickerbocker of Neodesha was traveling east on US-400 in the outside lane in a 2023 Ford Escape at the time of the crash. 

At the same time, 35-year-old Elizabeth Schwartz of Cherryvale was operating a horse and buggy traveling east in the outside lane and shoulder. The Ford hit the rear of the buggy. Emergency crews were rushed to the scene to provide aid to the involved parties. Both Schwartz and their passenger, a 16-year-old Cherryvale resident, were injured and transported by ambulance to Labette Health Hospital in Parsons for treatment. No further information on the crash is currently available. Local law enforcement officials are handling the ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident.
