Manhattan, KS - Two Hurt in Motorcycle Crash at US-24 & Kimball Ave

Manhattan, KS (October 26, 2024) – A two-vehicle crash in the Manhattan area on Friday, October 25, left two people injured. The collision took place on US-24 SB near Kimball Avenue that afternoon around 3:30 p.m. Local reports revealed that 40-year-old Thomas D. Shortle of Marysville was stopped in the median of the highway facing east in a 2011 Ford F-150 pickup truck to yield to traffic.

The bed of the Ford was still in the southbound lanes. At the same time, 19-year-old Joel T. Scheuerman of Lenexa was traveling southbound in the left lane of the highway on the back of a 2024 Kawasaki Z900 motorcycle. As the bike was traveling over a hill, it hit the bed of the Ford pickup. Emergency responders were quickly dispatched to render aid to the involved parties. Both Scheuerman and his passenger, 18-year-old Madeline N. Bona also from Lenexa, were injured. Both victims were rushed to Stormont Vail Hospital by ambulance for treatment. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is underway, and more information will be provided as it continues.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
