Cassoday, KS (October 26, 2024) – Two people were left with injuries after a single-vehicle crash outside of Cassoday on Friday, October 25. The accident took place on Interstate 35 NB near mile marker 88 in Butler County late that night around 10:20 p.m. Local reports revealed that 43-year-old Bobby Shortino of Cottonwood Falls was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox headed northbound on the interstate.
For unknown reasons, Shortino lost control of the Chevy, causing him to over-correct and enter a ditch where the vehicle rolled. Emergency responders were quickly dispatched to the scene to provide aid to the involved parties. Both the driver and his passenger, 18-year-old Michael Shortino also from Cottonwood Falls, were injured in the impact. Both victims were transported by ambulance to Wesley Medical Center for treatment. No further updates on the collision are currently available. Local law enforcement officials are handling the ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
Rollover Accidents in Kansas
A major crash might happen almost at any time. A rollover collision is one of the most devastating kinds of crashes reported on American roads. Passengers run the risk of being ejected entirely from the vehicle and getting seriously hurt in the event of a rollover. Unrestrained passengers are more likely to be ejected from the car and sustain serious injuries. In fact, approximately 75 percent of rollover fatalities involve unrestrained occupants, but data also reveals that over 33 percent of the ejected passengers in a rollover were safely buckled up in their seat belts, meaning that even if you are restrained, you can still be seriously hurt.
