Chanute, KS (October 28, 2024) – Multiple people were hurt after a two-vehicle crash outside of Chanute on Sunday, October 27. The accident took place on US-169 near 130th Street early that morning around 2:45 a.m. Local reports revealed that 19-year-old Gregory Lopez of Chanute was headed northbound on the highway in a 2005 Chevrolet Impala in a four-lane zone.
At the same time, 48-year-old Heathern Ann Craft of Fredonia traveling south on the highway in a 2005 Chrysler Town & Country. For unknown reasons, Lopez went left of center into oncoming traffic and collided with the Chrysler in the right shoulder. The Chevy came to a stop on the southbound shoulder, and the Chrysler came to a rest in a west ditch. No further information on the accident is currently available. Both drivers were injured in the crash, along with two passengers in the Impala, 20-year-old Camden Allen Hugo and 21-year-old Rylan Steward McVey, both from Chanute. Lopez was transported by ambulance to Joplin Mercy Hospital for treatment, and Craft was hospitalized at Wesley Medical Center. No further information on the crash is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is in progress.
