Wichita, KS (October 29, 2024) – A driver was killed after a wrong-way crash outside of Wichita on Monday, October 28. The fatal accident took place near the crossing of E. 29th Street and Webb Road at around 12:38 p.m. Local reports revealed that 24-year-old Katelyn Elizabeth Barrioz of Wichita was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes in a 2024 Ford Transit van.
It was later reported that 43-year-old Mandy Lynn Buckwalter of Wichita was traveling east in the same lane in a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt. Both drivers attempted evasive maneuvers before colliding head-on. Emergency crews were quickly dispatched to the scene to provide aid to the involved parties. Buckwalter suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Barrioz was injured and taken by ambulance to Wesley Medical Center for treatment. No further information on the deadly crash is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
