Ottawa, KS (December 4, 2024) – A multi-vehicle accident on Southbound I-35 near mile marker 198.7, approximately half a mile north of the K33 junction, occurred on Saturday, November 30, at 11:27 a.m. The crash involved three vehicles and led to at least one person sustaining injuries. The accident took place when a northbound vehicle lost control, crossed through the median, and entered the southbound lanes of traffic, causing two southbound vehicles to take evasive maneuvers to avoid a direct collision. However, the second vehicle in line rear-ended the third vehicle, resulting in an injury to one of the occupants.
Vehicle one, a 2012 Honda Civic, was driven by 48-year-old Francisco Javier Nunez-Sanchez, who reportedly did not sustain any apparent injuries. His passenger, 47-year-old Sonia Pilco Preito, suffered suspected minor injuries and was transported to Overland Park Regional Hospital. Vehicle two, a 2015 Mazda CX5, was driven by 36-year-old Amanda Elody Cheek, who, along with her occupants, was not injured. The third vehicle involved, a 2015 Acura MDX, was driven by 55-year-old Franklin J. Pullen, with three other passengers, all of whom were also reported to have no apparent injuries.
Emergency responders were on the scene promptly, and the area was temporarily disrupted while the vehicles were cleared and injured parties attended to. As of now, the details surrounding the cause of the initial loss of control are still under investigation. Local law enforcement, including the Kansas Highway Patrol, is handling the ongoing investigation.
We extend our thoughts to the individuals affected by this crash and wish for the full recovery of the injured parties.
