Colby, KS (September 23, 2024) – There were reported injuries after a two-car collision in the Colby area on Sunday, September 22. The accident occurred at the corner of 4th Street and Range Avenue early that morning, around 9:47 a.m. Local reports indicated that 54-year-old Melvin D. Gilley of Burlington, CO, headed eastbound in a 2015 GMC Sierra on 4th Street as 40-year-old Lucas Santos of Colby was traveling north in a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu on Range Avenue. 

As Gilley approached the intersection, he moved into the far right lane to make a turn. He failed to stop at a red light and entered the intersection where the GMC hit the oncoming Chevy. Emergency crews were rushed to the scene to provide the necessary aid to the involved parties. A passenger in the GMC, 54-year-old Nancy K. Gilley of Burlington, CO, was injured and transported to Colby Medical Center for treatment. No further information on the incident is currently available. Local law enforcement officials are managing an ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash.
