Copeland, KS (May 21, 2024) – There were multiple injuries reported after a two-vehicle crash in the Copeland area on Monday, May 20. The incident was reported at the intersection of K-144 and 2 Road that afternoon around 2:20 p.m. Local reports revealed that two vehicles collided at the scene after a driver ran a stop sign.

According to initial sources, a 17-year-old Montezuma teen was traveling northbound on 2 Road in a 2023 Ford Super Duty pickup truck as 51-year-old Hugo Montes of Libertal was traveling east on K-144 in a 2012 Peterbilt semi-truck. For unknown reasons, the driver of the Ford failed to stop at the stop sign, and the two vehicles collided. The driver of the Ford and their two passengers were transported to CommonSpirit St. Catherine Hospital – Garden City for the treatment of sustained injuries. The passengers were later identified as 19-year-old Alleris I. Granados of Fowler and 19-year-old Alexa K. Seib of Montezuma. The driver of the Peterbilt was also hospitalized for treatment. No further information on the incident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is in progress.
