Dorrance, KS (June 16, 2024) – Two people were injured after a collision in the Dorrance area on Saturday, June 15. The accident took place at the intersection of 15th Street and 200th Boulevard around 11:30 a.m. Local reports revealed that 63-year-old Joy L. Torrez of Great Bend was traveling westbound in a 2010 Nissan Titan pickup truck on 15th Street north of Interstate 70 at the time of the crash.
Torrez reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a 2018 Chevy Malibu driven by 19-year-old Allyson Jayna Kaiser from Great Bend. Following the crash, the pickup continued northwest of the intersection and overturned before coming to a rest in the ditch. Emergency responders were rushed to the scene to render the necessary aid. Torrez was transported by ambulance to Russell Regional Medical Center for the treatment of sustained injuries. Kaiser was transported by a private vehicle to a local hospital in Great Bend. No further information on the incident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
Stop Sign Collisions in Kansas
Our daily commutes involve passing through multiple intersections. These areas are deceptively dangerous. Most collisions at intersections involve drivers who do not yield the right of way. Roughly 20 percent of traffic deaths and nearly half of serious injury accidents in the country are caused by intersection crashes, which are among the worst on the road. Many motorists will hit an oncoming vehicle by running a stop sign or red light. Nearly one-third of the approximately 700,000 collisions at stop-sign-controlled crossings each year result in injury. If you or a loved one is unjustly injured in a car accident, you need to be prepared to stand up for your legal rights and collaborate closely with an experienced Dorrance car accident lawyer.
