Emporia, KS (August 31, 2024) – Two people were injured after a single-vehicle accident outside of Emporia on Friday, August 30. The crash took place on Interstate 335 NB near mile marker 127 in Lyon County early that morning around 2:13 a.m. Local reports revealed that 31-year-old Raydel Risell Nunez of St. Joseph, MO was driving a 2007 GMC utility vehicle headed southbound on the interstate at the time of the incident.
The driver reportedly failed to heed construction zone cones set up in the area and continued traveling south onto a concrete barrier. The vehicle overturned, and emergency crews were sent to the scene to provide the necessary medical aid. Nunez and his passenger, 35-year-old Manressa Yanara Nunez also from St. Joseph, MO, were injured in the accident. Both parties were transported by ambulance to Newman Hospital for treatment. No additional information on the crash is currently available. Local law enforcement officials are handling the ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash.
