Gove City, KS (October 19, 2024) – Two people were injured after a driver veered into oncoming traffic on a Gove City highway on Friday, October 18. The incident took place ON KS-23 near Gove County Road I that afternoon around 12:40 p.m. Local reports revealed that 18-year-old Alexandra L. Ortiz of Dodge City was headed southbound in a 2007 Toyota Camry when she fell asleep behind the wheel and entered oncoming traffic.
It was revealed that 42-year-old Ryan S. Moss of Menlo was headed north in a 1988 Peterbilt semi-truck. Moss had to enter an east ditch to avoid a head-on crash with the oncoming Toyota, but the Camry hit two driver’s side axles on the truck. The Toyota came to a rest in the east ditch, along with the Peterbilt. Emergency crews were rushed to the scene to provide the necessary medical aid. Both drivers were transported by ambulance to Gove County Medical Center for treatment. No further information on the crash is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is in progress.
