Greensburg, KS (September 12, 2024) – There were reported injuries after a two-vehicle collision in the Greensburg area on Wednesday, September 11. The accident occurred at the US-54 and US-183 interchange that night around 6:41 p.m. A 2022 Kenworth semi tractor-trailer operated by 33-year-old Elby N. Nkufi of Cedar Rapids, IA was traveling northbound on US-183 as 29-year-old Bobby L. Horton of Macks Creek, MO was headed east on US-54 in a 2024 Kenworth semi-truck.
For unknown reasons, Nkufi failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection and crashed into the other Kenworth. The impact caused the first truck to jackknife and come to rest with its cab facing northbound. The other rig also overturned, blocking the highway. Emergency responders were rushed to the scene to render aid, and both truck drivers were transported by ambulance to Kiowa County Memorial for the treatment of sustained injuries. No further information on the accident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the collision is underway.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
