Junction City, KS (December 4, 2024) – A two-vehicle collision on westbound I-70 near milepost 299 resulted in one reported injury Tuesday afternoon. The accident occurred around 4:36 p.m., approximately 100 feet west of J. Hill Road, when traffic slowed for an emergency vehicle on the right shoulder. A 2014 Jeep Cherokee was unable to stop in time and rear-ended a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse.
Emergency responders arrived to assist those involved. The driver of the Chevrolet Traverse, 46-year-old Katrina Marie Schmahl of Junction City, sustained a possible injury and was transported to Irwin Hospital after complaining of pain. The driver of the Jeep Cherokee, 86-year-old Ada Irene Mobly, also of Junction City, was uninjured. Both vehicles sustained minor damage and were able to be driven from the scene.
Traffic was briefly disrupted as authorities cleared the area and conducted their investigation. The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under review, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
Our thoughts are with Ms. Schmahl and her family at this time. We hope for her swift and complete recovery following this incident.
