Junction City, KS - Two-Vehicle Collision at U77 and K209 Injures One

Junction City, KS (January 3, 2025) – A two-vehicle collision occurred at approximately 6:15 p.m. on Thursday evening at the intersection of U77 and K209, about two miles east of Woodbine, Kansas. The crash involved a 2011 GMC Acadia and a 2013 Ford Fiesta. One individual sustained serious injuries, while two others were reportedly uninjured.

The accident happened when the driver of the GMC Acadia, 59-year-old Harold Hutton of Henderson, Nevada, failed to stop at the stop sign on K209 and entered the intersection. His vehicle was struck on the passenger side by the Ford Fiesta, driven by 34-year-old Isaac Doolittle of Manhattan, Kansas. Both vehicles veered into the east ditch, where the GMC rolled onto its roof, and the Ford remained upright. Hutton suffered suspected serious injuries and was transported to Geary County Hospital for treatment. Heather Britto, a passenger in the GMC, and Isaac Doolittle were uninjured in the collision. All individuals involved were reportedly using safety restraints at the time of the crash.

Emergency responders and law enforcement were present at the scene to assist the injured and manage the situation. The intersection was temporarily impacted by the crash as crews worked to clear the area. Local authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. Updates on Hutton’s condition and the progress of the investigation will be provided as they become available.

Our thoughts are with Mr. Hutton and his family during this difficult time. We hope for his swift and full recovery.

Intersection Accidents in Kansas

Intersections are common sites for serious accidents, often caused by failure to yield, distracted driving, or impaired judgment. According to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), approximately 50% of all traffic injuries and fatalities occur at intersections. These locations require heightened awareness and adherence to traffic signals to avoid catastrophic collisions. Drivers who fail to stop or yield at intersections significantly increase the risk of severe accidents, often resulting in devastating outcomes for those involved.

When a collision occurs, the consequences can be far-reaching, affecting victims’ health, finances, and overall well-being. It is crucial for drivers to approach intersections with caution, especially in rural areas where traffic control devices may be less visible at night or during adverse weather conditions.
