Kansas City, KS (June 10, 2024) – On Sunday, June 9, there were multiple injuries reported after an auto accident in the Kansas City area. The incident was reported on Interstate 670 EB near 7th Street late that night around 11:10 p.m. Local reports indicated that a 2015 Dodge Journey and a 2021 Hyundai Kona were stopped on the shoulder as 20-year-old Felipe Garza was traveling eastbound in a 2004 Dodge Caravan in the first lane.
For unknown reasons, the Challenger veered left and hit the rear of the Journey. The impact caused the Journey to crash into the Hyundai. The driver of the Journey, 36-year-old Kisha Dodson of Lawrence, and her passenger, 63-year-old Carolyn J. Townsel of Lawrence, were hurt in the collision. Garza, Dodson, and Townsel were all transported by ambulance to the Kansas University Medical Center for the treatment of sustained injuries. No further information on the incident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the collision is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
Rear-end Collisions in Kansas
With almost 1.7 million recorded collisions each year, rear-end crashes are the most common kind of traffic accident in the nation. On average, these over two million rear-end crashes result in 1,700 fatalities and 500,000 injuries annually. Neck or spinal injuries are common as a result of the sudden back-and-forth motion that typically happens in a rear-end collision. Since careless drivers frequently cause these collisions by failing to stop in time to avoid them, the driver in the back will typically be found at fault.
