Lackman, KS (April 12, 2024) – There were reported injuries following a two-vehicle collision in the Lackman area on Thursday, April. The accident was reported on Interstate 435 early that morning around 8:40 a.m. Local reports revealed that a semi-truck collided with a passenger at the scene.
It was revealed that a 2014 Western semi-truck driven by 55-year-old Ricard McCommon of Greenwood, MO, was traveling westbound on the highway in lane two. At the same time, a 2013 Mini Cooper driven by 73-year-old David Barker of Shawnee was headed westbound. The 18-wheeler made a lane change when it collided with the Mini Cooper.
This caused the passenger to spin out and hit the front of the 18-wheeler before being dragged nearly half a mile. Barker was transported to the Kansas University Medical Center for treatment of sustained injuries. No further information on the accident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is in progress.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
Semi-Truck Crashes in Kansas
When sharing the road with a large semi-truck or commercial rig, Kansas drivers frequently experience anxiety and fear. According to statistics, these massive vehicles are involved in over 500,000 reported crashes annually, which result in over 5,000 fatalities and numerous injuries. A big rig can weigh nearly 70,000 pounds when fully loaded, and trucks are especially dangerous in collisions involving passenger cars. Unfortunately, passenger cars are involved in most truck accidents. After a serious 18-wheeler crash, work with a qualified attorney to pursue a claim and pursue a full recovery.
