Liberal, KS (August 15, 2024) – There were two people hurt after a two-vehicle collision in the Liberal area on Wednesday, August 14. The accident occurred on US-54 near County Road O that afternoon around 3:21 p.m. Local reports revealed that 27-year-old Oscar Jovanny Diaz-Ramirez was headed north in a 2012 Freightliner Cascadia semi-truck as 27-year-old Luis Angel Dominguez Galindo of Plains was traveling west in a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.
The tractor-trailer reportedly failed to yield at the intersection, and both vehicles collided. Emergency crews were rushed to the scene to provide the necessary aid. Galindo and his passenger, 24-year-old Astrid Alazahy Gonzales of Plains, were injured in the crash. Both parties were transported by ambulance to Southwest Medical Center for treatment. No further information on the crash is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the collision is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
Kansas Intersection Accidents
Drivers pass through a number of intersections in Kansas on a daily basis. Stats show that these areas have an increased risk of a crash. Many drivers violate red lights and stop signs, increasing the risk of colliding with an oncoming vehicle. About one-third of the 700,000 accidents at stop-sign-controlled crossings each year result in documented injuries. Statistics show that serious auto accidents usually happen close to an intersection. Usually, the driver who is at fault neglects to yield the right-of-way. Intersection crashes rank among the deadliest on the road since they cause over half of all accidents in the country that result in serious injuries and nearly 20 percent of traffic fatalities.
