Mulvane, KS (June 9, 2024) – Two people were injured after a rollover accident in the Mulvane area on Saturday, June 8. The incident was reported at the 1807 block of E. 119th Street west of Foxburg Road that afternoon around 3:38 p.m. Local reports revealed that the victims were traveling eastbound in a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck at the time of the crash.
The driver, 64-year-old Keith Doyle Laxson of Wichita, lost control of the pickup and crashed into a nearby ditch where it hit a culvert. The vehicle continued heading eastbound in the ditch where it hit another culvert. This caused the Chevy to roll. The truck came to a stop on its roof in the ditch. Emergency crews were transported to the scene to provide the necessary aid. Both the driver and his passenger, 59-year-old Merle Eugene Urban of Wichita, were hurt in the collision. Laxson was taken by ambulance to Wesley Medical Center for the treatment of sustained injuries. No further information on the accident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the collision is in progress.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
Rollover Collisions in Kansas
A significant collision can occur nearly at any time. One of the most catastrophic types of crashes that are frequently reported on American roadways is a rollover accident. When an automobile overturns, the occupants run the risk of being ejected and suffering severe injuries. Unrestrained passengers run a higher danger of being thrown from the vehicle and suffering catastrophic injuries. This could be the reason that around 75 percent of rollover fatalities involve unrestrained people. However, data also shows that approximately 33 percent of passengers in a rollover were ejected while securely fastened in their seat belts.
