Newton, KS (April 9, 2024) – On Monday, April 8, a woman was killed after a hit-and-run accident in the Newton area. The deadly accident was reported at the intersection of 24th Street and Interstate 135 sometime between 6 and 8 a.m. Emergency crews were quickly dispatched to the scene after being notified of a woman lying in an embankment.
Local reports revealed that the pedestrian was hit by a white Honda or Accord on 24th Street. The impact caused the woman to fall into a nearby embankment. The driver fled the scene without rendering aid to the injured party. A truck driver reported the incident to authorities early that morning around 9 a.m. The injured party sustained fatal injuries and was later pronounced dead. The deceased victim was identified as 64-year-old Laurie Robinson of Newton. No further information on the deadly accident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
