Norton, KS (July 16, 2024) – On Monday, July 15, two people were hurt after a two-vehicle collision in the Norton area. The accident took place at the K-383 and US-36 interchange early that morning, around 10 a.m. Local reports indicated that 41-year-old Shayne Marie Francisco of Denver, CO, was driving a 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe when she parked on the westbound shoulder to use her phone.
At the same time, 68-year-old Jose Salas Gonzales of Holcomb was traveling west in a 2000 Freightliner semi-truck. Gonzales entered the left lane to pass the Hyundai when the SUV re-entered the highway to enter a private driveway on the opposite side. The two vehicles collided, and emergency crews were rushed to the scene to provide aid to the involved parties. Both drivers were transported to a local hospital by ambulance for treatment. No updates on the accident are currently available.
Our thoughts are with Shayne Marie Francisco, Jose Sales Gonzales, and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
