Overland Park, KS (March 29, 2024) – A driver and passenger were hurt following a car crash in the Overland Park area on Thursday, March 28. The collision was reported that afternoon at around 1:15 p.m. on Interstate 35 SB near Interstate 435. A 2017 Ford Explorer driven by 84-year-old Jake Edward Dilks of Overland Park was traveling southbound in lane four on the interstate leading up to the crash.
At the same time, a 2009 Honda Civic driven by 27-year-old Allison Sarah Morrison of Olathe was also headed south in lane six. A third vehicle that did not make contact in the crash made an unsafe lane change to the right. Dilks veered to the right to avoid being hit by the oncoming vehicle and sideswiped the Honda. This caused the Civic to leave the roadway where it hit a barrier wall.
Morrison and her passenger, 32-year-old Ryan C. Herrington of Independence, MO, were hurt, and both were transported to Overland Park Regional Hospital for treatment of sustained injuries. No further information on the crash is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
Our thoughts are with Allison Sarah Morrison, Ryan C. Herrington, and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
Kansas Sideswipe Collisions
Kansas roads are filled with irresponsible drivers, and it only takes one to cause a collision that might change someone’s life. A lot of drivers will change lanes and drive recklessly in the state. This raises the possibility of a sideswipe, which involves a driver grazing another car traveling in the same direction. Studies conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) show that over 242,000 sideswipe crashes are reported annually in the United States alone. Over 2,500 people are killed and 27,000 are injured as a result of these crashes.
