Peabody, KS (July 13, 2024) – On Thursday, July 11, two people were killed following a car accident outside of Peabody. The deadly collision was reported on US-50 early that morning around 6:25 a.m. Local reports indicated that 41-year-old Travis Flasschoen of Wichita was traveling eastbound in a 2017 GMC Acadia as 71-year-old John Ireland of Cottonwood Falls was headed west in a 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe. 

For unknown reasons, Flasschoen veered left of center and collided head-on with the oncoming Hyundai. Both drivers sustained fatal injuries in the impact and were pronounced dead at the scene. Both sides of the highway were shut down following the collision. No further information on the accident is currently available. Local law enforcement officials are handling the ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash.
