Pierceville, KS (October 4, 2024) – On Thursday, October 3, a driver was injured after a two-vehicle collision outside of Pierceville. The accident took place at the intersection of KS-156 and N. 16 Mile Road that afternoon around 1:17 p.m. Local reports indicated that 69-year-old Debra Dea Colburn of Garden City was stopped at a stop sign in a 2019 Kia Soul facing south at the time of the crash.
At the same time, 35-year-old Jonathan Evan Ponder of McPherson was headed eastbound on the highway in a 2022 Chevrolet pickup truck. Ponder attempted to pass a commercial truck on the road as Colburn was making a right turn to head west on the highway. Ponder attempted to brake and avoid the crash, but both vehicles ended up sideswiping the other. Emergency responders were rushed to the scene to provide the necessary aid. Colburn was transported to St. Catherine Hospital for the treatment of sustained injuries. No additional information on the crash is currently available. However, an ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
