Soldier, KS (September 11, 2024) – There were reported injuries after a two-vehicle collision in the Soldier area on Tuesday, September 10. The accident took place at the intersection of US-75 and Topeka Boulevard that afternoon around 2:21 p.m. Local reports revealed that 87-year-old Charles H. Powers of Carbondale was driving a 2015 Toyota pickup truck traveling northbound on the highway approaching the intersection.
Powers attempted to make a turn west onto Topeka Boulevard but failed to see an oncoming 2020 Chevrolet SUV. The driver of the Chevy, 29-year-old Alec M. Smith of Burlington, was headed south and attempted an evasive maneuver to avoid being hit by the pickup. The Toyota struck the driver-side door of the SUV. The impact caused the Chevy to roll. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, and Smith was transported to Coffey County Hospital by ambulance for the treatment of sustained injuries. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is being managed by local law enforcement officials, and more information will be provided as it continues.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
