Tonganoxie, KS (June 26, 2024) – On Tuesday, June 25, there were confirmed injuries after a crash involving two commercial trucks in the Tonganoxie area. The accident was reported on Interstate 70 early that morning around 11:54 a.m. Local reports revealed that a 2022 Freightliner semi-trailer was headed eastbound on the interstate when it entered the shoulder and hit a disabled 2011 Peterbilt tractor-trailer.
The Freightliner continued traveling east when it rolled onto its side in a south ditch. Emergency crews were rushed to the scene to provide aid to the involved parties. The operator of the Freightliner, 50-year-old Jerry Reihm of Topeka, was hurt in the crash. Reihm was transported by ambulance to the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City for the treatment of sustained injuries. The operator of the other rig, 31-year-old Anthony Avelluto of Kansas City. No other information on the crash is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the incident is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
