Wichita, KS (April 23, 2024) – There were confirmed injuries after a vehicle collision in the Wichita area on Monday, April 22. The accident was reported at the intersection of Interstate 235 NB and S. Seneca Street that morning around 11:56 a.m. Local reports revealed that three vehicles were traveling northbound on the interstate leading to the incident.
Initial reports indicated that a 2003 Ford F-250 pickup truck and a 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander driven by 28-year-old Djada Williams of Haysville were both traveling north in the right lane. It was then that a 2021 Thom school bus driven by 26-year-old Yareli Rodriguez of Wichita began to merge onto the interstate from Seneca Street. The Mitsubishi changed lanes into the left lane, and the Ford sped up in order to pass it. The pickup crashed into the rear of the bus. The driver of the Ford pulled over onto the shoulder before fleeing the scene on foot.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene. Rodriguez sustained injuries in the crash and was transported to Wesley Hospital for the treatment of sustained injuries. No further information on the crash is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
